This series contains 30 interpretations of seraphim and cherubim, angels embodying sacredness, divine wisdom, and protection. Considered the highest beings in the Celestial Hierarchy (according to 5th-century philosopher Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite), they reside in the physical presence of God. With this project, I’m interested in visualizing a broader reach of this divinity. The pieces depict the angels through various forms and environments; some are imagined, whether bodily or amorphous, and others are described as existing things, like bugs or fungi. Placing them in tactile settings and representing them with ephemeral forms, the pieces question where and how divinity can be seen, felt, and shared.
